NewYork-Presbyterian security officers Rubere Raffoul and Eddie Ramirez got a special surprise when they were invited to Good Morning America and honored as real-life heroes.

In February, Officer Ramirez, who is based at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, was coming home from dinner when he saw a man had fallen onto the subway tracks. When he found the man was unconscious, he jumped into the tracks, lifted him out, and stayed with him until paramedics arrived.

In July, Officer Raffoul was on duty at NewYork-Presbyterian Allen Hospital when someone came into the lobby saying a woman was giving birth outside the hospital’s entrance. Officer Raffoul immediately put on gloves and ran out to help deliver the baby, keeping mom and baby safe until medical staff arrived.

For going above and beyond while on and off duty, Good Morning America invited Officers Raffoul and Ramirez on set. To their surprise, actors Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman came out with a special thank you and tickets to the premiere of their new movie Deadpool & Wolverine.

“Thank you for what you do,” said Jackman. “Thank you for your service, not just in that moment, but for every day turning up.”

Said Ramirez: “That’s what NewYork-Presbyterian is about, just taking care of people.”
