Dr. Manish Parikh Appointed Chief of Cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital
Dr. Manish A. Parikh, an internationally renowned clinical interventional cardiologist and educator, has been named chief of cardiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He also returns to the Weill Cornell Medicine faculty, where he will serve as associate professor of medicine, following more than a decade at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
“We are excited to have Dr. Parikh lead our cardiology division,” said Robert Guimento, president of NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. “Dr. Parikh is an outstanding leader who is dedicated to educating the next generation of physicians, providing the highest quality care to our patients and increasing access to world-class cardiovascular care in our communities.”
Dr. Parikh will lead NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital’s cardiology division, which offers treatment of a broad array of heart conditions, including complex coronary artery disease; structural and valvular heart disease; and advanced heart failure and complex arrhythmias (when the heart beats with an irregular or abnormal rhythm). Under Dr. Parikh’s leadership, NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital will expand these offerings, as well as further its endovascular care services, which are minimally invasive procedures done inside the blood vessels, and complex rhythm management — procedures that implant a device to help control cardiac rhythm.
Dr. Parikh has spent 27 years at NewYork-Presbyterian, with a long history of accomplishments at Weill Cornell Medicine and Columbia University Irving Medical Center. For the past 10 years, Dr. Parikh has been an associate professor of medicine, the associate director of the cardiac catheterization laboratory and director of business development at the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy at NewYork-Presbyterian/Columbia University Irving Medical Center. There, he successfully developed and operationalized offices to provide high-quality cardiovascular consultative care throughout New York City’s communities. He has also contributed to the academic mission, teaching interventional cardiology techniques to fellows and physicians across the globe.
“I am thrilled to join NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital to provide best-in-class cardiovascular care and meet the needs of the diverse communities who live and work in Brooklyn,” said Dr. Parikh. “NewYork-Presbyterian shares my commitment to medical education, clinical excellence and genuine outreach within communities to make sure every patient receives the highest quality care. I look forward to growing our cardiovascular program and reaching as many patients as possible.”
Throughout his career, Dr. Parikh has been at the forefront of many impactful clinical trials. His research has focused on advances in novel coronary stents—tubes that prop open the artery and improve blood flow to the heart muscle; innovative new imaging and physiology tools; atherectomy techniques that remove plaque from an artery and restore blood flow to the heart; and robot-assisted stent placements.
He has traveled around the world to train physicians on coronary intervention procedures. He is a fellow of the Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions, the American College of Cardiology, the Cardiovascular Research Foundation and many other organizations. Dr. Parikh has been a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in New York for the past 20 years.
Dr. Parikh received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. He began his career at NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center in 1990 where he completed his internship, residency and fellowship.
